How to use it

Pick the type that fits your page. Use BlogPosting for blog posts, NewsArticle for news and press content, and Article for everything else. Then fill in the headline, description, page URL, image, author, publisher and dates. Anything you leave blank is simply left out of the code, so you only ship the fields you actually have. The block on the right updates as you type.

Copy the finished block into the head of the matching article page, or download the raw JSON for your codebase. If you leave the modified date empty, the tool reuses the published date so the field is never broken.

Article structured data tells Google who wrote a piece, who published it, and when. That helps search engines trust the content and can support richer listings, including an image and a clear byline. Use a high-quality image at least 1200 pixels wide for the best shot at an image-rich result, and run the output through the Rich Results Test before you publish.

Frequently asked questions

Which article type should I choose?

Use BlogPosting for blog posts, NewsArticle for news and press content, and Article for everything else. They share most fields, so pick the one that best describes the page.

Do I need an author and a publisher?

Both help. The author is the person or team who wrote the piece, and the publisher is the brand behind the site. Google uses these to understand who stands behind the content.

What image size works best?

Use a high-quality image that represents the article, ideally at least 1200 pixels wide. A clear, relevant image gives you the best shot at an image-rich result.
